TEMPE, Ariz. — Marcus Johnson scored 23 points, Javontae Campbell hit a go-ahead free throw with 12 seconds remaining, and Derrick Butler secured the victory with a block in the closing seconds as Bowling Green State University’s men’s basketball team knocked off New Mexico State 61-60 on Saturday in the Desert Division consolation game of the Arizona Tip-Off.
Falcons head coach Todd Simon picked up his 150th career victory as a college head coach.
Johnson had five rebounds and three steals for the Falcons (3-5). Butler scored 15 points while going 4 of 15 from the floor, including 2 for 7 from 3-point range, and 5 for 5 from the line and added five rebounds. Campbell had 12 points and shot 1 of 9 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.
As a team, Bowling Green hit 26-of-30 attempts from the line.
The Aggies (3-4) were led by Jaden Harris, who posted 18 points and nine rebounds. New Mexico State also got 10 points and seven rebounds from Robert Carpenter. Christian Cook finished with nine points and four assists.
Campbell scored a team-high 12 points for Bowling Green in the second half.
Up next for Bowling Green is a 2 p.m. home matchup Saturday, Dec. 7, against Morgan State.
