BGSU hockey takes rare regulation loss at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Bowling Green State University hockey could not complete a two-game weekend sweep at Ferris State, allowing four consecutive goals in a 4-3 loss Saturday night.

The Falcons (12-8-3, 8-5-3 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) led 2-0 before the Bulldogs (7-15-2, 6-10-0) in the second and early third periods.

BGSU suffered its first regulation loss since Dec. 6, snapping a nine-game point streak.

A night after picking up a 4-3 win to open the weekend set, BGSU hit the ground running again with two goals in the first eight minutes Saturday. Quinn Emerson opened the scoring at the 5:30 mark of the first period with an assist from Eric Parker.

Less than two minutes later, Brody Waters got an assist from Ryan O’Hara as he made it 2-0.

Ferris State tied the game in the second period. Kade Turner made it 2-1 at the 3:21 mark of the period, and Gavin Best found the equalizer just 10 seconds before the second intermission.

The Bulldogs kept rolling in the third as Nick Nardecchia and Tyler Schleppe both scored within the first six minutes of the period, leaving BG in a 4-2 hole.

Waters scored his second of the night on a power play with under eight minutes to go, this time with assists from Dalton Norris and O’Hara. But the Falcons could not find a tying goal in the late stages.

Cole Moore made 34 saves on 38 shots for BGSU, and Ferris State’s Noah West had 38 of a possible 41 stops.

BGSU returns home next weekend for two games against Augustana. Puck drops are set for 7:37 p.m. Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday at the Slater Family Ice Arena.
