KENT, Ohio — Bowling Green State University’s men’s basketball team shot just 32 percent and failed to reach 60 points for the first time this season in a 75-57 Mid-American Conference loss at Kent State on Tuesday at the M.A.C. Center.
The Falcons lost their fourth straight game — a first in two seasons under head coach Todd Simon — in falling to 7-13 (2-6 MAC). The Golden Flashes improved to 13-7 (4-4).
Kent State took advantage of an eight-minute field goal drought from BGSU that stretched from Wilguens Jr. Exacte’s 3-pointer with 5:25 left in the first half to his layup with 17:12 remaining. Between then, Kent State went on a 17-4 run to turn a 26-21 lead into an 18-point advantage.
BGSU made just 17 of 53 shots, including 7 of 26 (26.9 percent) from 3-point range. The Falcons were efficient from the free-throw line in going 16 of 20.
Only five BGSU players scored. Marcus Johnson had team highs of 21 points and six rebounds, while Javontae Campbell added 16 points (11 of 12 free throws) and four steals.
Trey Thomas and Exacte added nine and seven points, respectively, for BGSU.
VonCameron Davis poured in 24 points, while Cian Medley had 12 points and 10 assists for Kent State. Jalen Sullinger scored 18 points and Marquis Barnett 10.
The Golden Flashes shot 51.9 percent overall and 45.5 percent from the free-throw line. Kent State had a 16-6 advantage in assists.
BGSU will try to bounce back at 7 p.m. Saturday when it travels to Central Michigan.
