MARQUETTE, Mich. — Jackson Niedermayer’s goal four minutes into overtime lifted the Bowling Green State University hockey team to a 3-2 CCHA hockey victory Friday at Northern Michigan.
Ethan Scardina, who scored earlier in the game, assisted on the game-winner. The goal came after the Falcons killed a power play that started 30 seconds into overtime on a Ryan O’Hara slashing call.
Bowling Green (13-9-4, 9-6-4 CCHA) led for much of the third period, taking a 2-1 lead at the 4:10 mark on Scardina’s goal. Niedermayer and Ville Immonen assisted.
Northern Michigan (4-22-1, 3-15-1) equalized with 1:17 remaining when, using an extra attacker, Tanner Latsch beat Christian Stoever.
Tommy Pasanen opened scoring with 1:55 remaining in the second period to give Bowling Green the first lead of the contest. Dalton Norris and Ben Doran assisted. Northern Michigan’s Rasmus Larsson tied the game at 1 at 2:22 of the third.
Stoever finished with 22 saves. Northern Michigan’s Ryan Ouellette had 34 saves.
The victory extends Bowling Green’s points streak to three games but was the Falcons’ first victory since a 4-3 win Jan. 17 at Ferris State.
Bowling Green, which sits in fourth in the CCHA with a .579 points percentage, wraps up the weekend series at Northern Michigan with a 6:07 p.m. contest Saturday. The Falcons return home next weekend with games Friday and Saturday against St. Thomas.
