MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State opened more space between itself and the field in Mid-American Conference women’s basketball play, improving to 11-0 in the league with a 71-51 victory Wednesday over Bowling Green State University at Worthen Arena.
The host Cardinals, who lead the MAC by three games over Toledo, Buffalo, and Kent State, outscored the Falcons 19-11 in the first quarter and went to the locker room at halftime with a 39-20 lead.
Ball State is ranked fourth in the CollegeInsider mid-major poll, behind South Dakota State, Columbia, and Grand Canyon.
Strong perimeter shooting paid off for Ball State, which hit 12 of 23 3-point attempts (52.2 percent). The Cardinals (19-4 overall) hit 41.9 percent of their shots from the field (26 of 62) for the game, compared to Bowling Green’s 35-percent (21 of 60) clip.
The Falcons (11-11, 5-6) made just 6 of 30 3-point attempts (30 percent).
Ball State also dominated on the boards, outrebounding Bowling Green 47-31. Offensively, the Cardinals outrebounded the Falcons 17-10.
Bowling Green shot just four free throws the entire way, making three.
Madelyn Bischoff led Ball State with 20 points. Ally Becki had 17 points and 10 assists, Alex Richard had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Maliyah Johnson scored 10 points.
Paige Kohler paced Bowling Green with 15 points. Lexi Fleming had 14 points, and Amy Velasco recorded 13 points.
Bowling Green travels to Arkansas State for a 3 p.m. contest Saturday in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. The next home game is scheduled for Feb. 15, when the Falcons host Central Michigan.
