YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team finished off a strong end to the regular season with an 87-67 win on the road against Eastern Michigan in Mid-American Conference action Saturday.
BGSU (18-12, 11-7 MAC) won seven of its last eight games to close the season, rolling into the MAC tournament in Cleveland. The Falcons, seeded sixth in the league tournament, will face third-seeded Buffalo (24-6, 13-5) in the fourth quarterfinal of the day Wednesday, 30 minutes after the end of Game 3.
Those two teams squared off back on Jan. 8 in Bowling Green, with the Bulls coming away with a 10-point victory (70-60).
In Saturday’s regular-season finale, BGSU carried a 48-32 advantage into halftime, then kept its distance from Eastern Michigan in the second half for the 20-point win. The Falcons were led in scoring by Lexi Fleming, who finished with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting (66.7 percent).
BGSU’s Paige Kohler filled up the stat sheet, notching 18 points, plus seven rebounds and assists each. Amy Velasco added 17 points and four assists while Erika Porter kicked in 15 points and four rebounds.
Eastern Michigan (2-27, 1-17) had a trio in double figures as Sisi Eleko had 19 points and eight rebounds, Olivia Smith had 18 points, and Elmwood High School graduate Brooklyn Thrash finished with 14 points.
The Falcons converted 32 of 52 field goals (58.2 percent) and were 8 of 16 (50 percent) from beyond the arc. EMU hit on 21 of 60 (35 percent) and was 8 of 20 (40 percent) from 3.
BGSU held the edge in rebounding, 37-30. The Falcons also outdid the Eagles at points in the point, holding a 42-22 advantage.
