BOWLING GREEN — Former Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George was introduced as Bowling Green State University’s football coach Monday morning.
After four seasons at Tennessee State, George is the 21st head coach in BGSU history.
Here are five quick takeaways from his press conference.
● George's goal is to win the MAC this coming season. "Now is time to go from good to elite," George said.
● His strategy in building a roster will focus on development.
● He sees roster continuity as a key to compete for championships.
"We're gonna find ways to use NIL strategically and the portal strategically," he said. "But the most important thing to have is continuity. If you're a real football team vying for a championship, that's what's gonna carry you through."
● Urban Meyer was involved in the hiring process. Bowling Green athletic director Derek van der Merwe said the idea to hire George came from Meyer. And it was Meyer who texted George about looking into the opportunity. When George received the text from Meyer, George was in Bowling Green, Ky.
● George wasn't looking to leave Tennessee State. "It was a situation that presented itself," he said.
