BG hockey's McLain signs AHL contract

BOWLING GREEN – Bowling Green State University’s Mitch McLain has signed an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.

McLain is a senior forward who earned All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association honors for the Falcons this season, leading the team with a career-high 18 goals. The native of Baxter, Minn., was a first-team All-WCHA pick as a junior thanks to 16 assists, his single-season best, and 33 points.

In four years at Bowling Green, McLain registered 101 points thanks to 53 goals and 48 assists in 161 career games, posting a plus-35 plus-minus mark.

The Wild, the top affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota franchise, are in fourth place in the AHL’s Central Division with a 29-18-9-5 record good for 72 points. The Wild, based in Des Moines, are just one point behind third-place Grand Rapids, Detroit’s top farm team, despite playing two fewer games.
