BOWLING GREEN — A hot power play lifted Bowling Green’s hockey team, which opened WCHA league play with a 3-1 victory over Michigan Tech at Slater Family Ice Arena.
Sophomore defenseman Will Cullen nailed the game-winning goal at 15:37 of the second period with the man advantage, his first of the season.
Michigan Tech got on the board first with Trenton Bliss’ second goal of the year on a power play at the 5:09 mark of the first period.
BGSU junior forward Connor Ford scored the equalizer at 9:20 of the first period for his second goal of the season. He added his third — another power play goal — to pad the Falcons’ lead at 12:17 in the third period.
Goalie Eric Dop made 20 saves for the Falcons (4-2, 1-0), who host Michigan Tech (2-3, 0-3) again at 7:07 p.m. on Saturday.
