BOWLING GREEN — Midweek games will comprise half of the Mid-American Conference schedule during the shortened 2020 season.
The MAC council of presidents voted 12-0 to play a fall season on Friday, a plan that includes a six-game schedule, four coronavirus tests per week for players, no general public in attendance at games, and a championship game Dec. 18 or 19 at Ford Field in Detroit.
Though the full schedule has not been revealed, MAC schools already know the structure of the season, which begins Nov. 4.
In a conference call with members of the media, Bowling Green director of athletics Bob Moosbrugger said Saturday that MAC teams will play their first three games on midweek dates, then switch to Saturday games for the second half of the schedule.
The MAC would begin Saturday games on Nov. 28, two days after Thanksgiving, then play their final two regular-season games on Dec. 5 and Dec. 12.
Both Bowling Green and Toledo know who they will play during the season, albeit without times and dates.
The Falcons will play their five East Division opponents — Ohio, Miami, Kent State, Akron, and Buffalo — plus the Rockets, who are scheduled to host the rivalry game in 2020.
Aside from BG, Toledo will be scheduled to play Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, and Northern Illinois.
The MAC said in a statement Friday that it plans to announce a schedule at a later date. Teams can begin practicing as early as Monday.
