After 40 years as an LPGA Tour event, the Toledo area’s annual women’s golf tournament has a new format and a new look.
The tournament, set for the week of July 21-27 at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, is now called the Greater Toledo Classic. The event unveiled a new logo Saturday.
The event is no longer part of women’s golf’s highest professional tier but will instead feature golfers from the Legends of the LPGA and the developmental Epson Tour. According to a news release, two tournaments will be played at once, including 102 Epson Tour players and 42 Legends players.
“Designing the new look for the Greater Toledo Classic was an incredible opportunity to honor both the tournament’s deep roots in the community and its exciting new chapter with Toledo native Stacy Lewis as tournament host,” Jeff Kimble, chief executive officer of the marketing firm Communica, said in the release. “Having supported the event’s marketing needs for more than 30 years, we wanted this design to reflect the spirit of competition, the rich golf history of Toledo, and the bright future ahead. It’s a symbol of tradition and inspiration.”
The event will continue to raise money for northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan children’s charities. The tournament has raised $14.3 million since 1984.
