Some guys, you knew about. Other guys, not so much.
Week 1 of high school football wasn’t lacking in individual star power. Here’s a look at the top individual statistical performers from Friday night.
RUSHERS
Daniel Novotney (Genoa): A 6-foot-1, 235 pound nimble battering ram, the junior rushed for 146 yards and a score on 20 carries in the Comets 28-0 win at Columbus Bishop Ready.
Tyler Gowing (Swanton): Gowing was one of two top rushers for Swanton, going for 119 yards on 14 rushes with two scores as the Bulldogs beat Rossford 34-29.
Michael Lawniczak (Swanton): A 5-foot-11 senior, Lawniczak carried the ball 22 times for 117 yards and a score in his team’s win over Rossford.
PASSERS
Logan Heintschel (Clay): In the sophomore’s first varsity start, he threw for five touchdowns, 263 yards, and completed 10-of-17 passes as Clay thumped Rogers 48-12.

Drew Sims (Perrysburg): While the Yellow Jackets might have been on the losing side at Dublin Coffman, Sims threw for 262 yards and one score on 18-of-36 passing.
Dawson Delventhal (Lake): Delventhal had nearly half of his 2017 season total in one game this year, totaling 209 yards and two TDs on 11-of-12 passing in Lake’s 20-13 win at Patrick Henry.
RECEIVERS
Max Bradfield (Anthony Wayne): Bradfield lifted the Generals to a lopsided win over St. Francis de Sales behind eight catches, 90 yards receiving, and three touchdowns.
Bryce McKinstry (Fremont Ross): Sure, the Little Giants lost a heartbreaker to Springfield, but McKinstry finished with two long touchdown grabs of 49 and 25 yards. He also came within two yards of scoring a third touchdown with seconds remaining that would’ve won Fremont Ross the ballgame.
