ROCKFORD, Mich. — Bedford’s Ethan Lingle captured a Division 1 state championship in the boys pole vault on Saturday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association track and field finals at Rockford High School.
With three vaulters having cleared 15 feet, 6 inches, Lingle was the only one to clear 15-9 to win the title. He missed all three attempts at 16-2.
His teammate Micah Scheffer was third in the long jump, putting up a mark of 21-10¾ on his last jump.
In Division 3, Blissfield’s Annabelle Smith was runner-up in the girls 100-meter dash in 12.32 seconds and the long jump (16-11¾) at Kent City High School in Kent City, Mich. Smith was also third in the 200 (25.75).
On the boys side, Erie Mason’s Jackson Ansel was fourth in the 800 (1:57.23). Also for the Eagles, Bryce Gardiner was eighth in the discus (140-9), while the 400 relay team of Grant Shadler, Shane Pauwels, Landen Nastale, and Aiden McMullen were eighth in 45.05.
Whiteford’s Dylan Anderson, Ty Ruddy, Ryan Oberle and Jacob Iott were also eighth in the boys 1,600 relay in 3:31.50.
