League golf tournaments were contested and champions determined last week around northwest Ohio.
THREE RIVERS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
St. John's Jesuit took a one-shot victory over rival St. Francis de Sales to win the TRAC boys team tournament last Wednesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, and St. Ursula prevailed by 27 strokes over runner-up rival Notre Dame for the girls team crown.
It was the 10th straight TRAC boys team title for the Titans.
In the boys tourney, they were led by event medalist Justy VonLehmden's 74 in edging the Knights 319 to 320. Findlay was third at 328, Clay was fourth at 330, followed by Fremont Ross (354), Whitmer (363), and Central Catholic (380).
Placing second individually with a 75 was TRAC boys player of the year Sam Sutton of St. Francis, and taking third was Findlay's Nick Feighner at 79.
There was a five-way tie for fourth at 81 that included Vinny Gallaher of Clay, Nick Miller and Conner Musil of St. Francis, Henry Rill of St. John's, and Darin Wray of Whitmer.
The Titans also won the overall team championship, which included TRAC matches, posting 58.5 points. They were followed by St. Francis (57), Findlay (45), and Clay (34.5) in the top four.
St. Ursula's Hannah Chung was the girls tournament medalist at Stone Ridge with a 75, followed by Arrows teammates Emma Myers (78) and Payton Donnelly (79), and Notre Dame's Sydney Simpson (83) and Marin Gaubert (84) in the top five. Donnelly was the TRAC girls player of the year.
The Arrows won the event with a 317, followed by Notre Dame (344), Whitmer (394), Clay (396), Findlay (397), and Fremont Ross (456). St. Ursula also captured the overall TRAC title with 81 points, followed by Notre Dame (67.5), Clay (43.5), and Findlay (42) in the top four.
NORTHERN LAKES LEAGUE
In the Northern Lakes League tournament held at Eagles Landing in Oregon on Sept. 19, Anthony Wayne won the boys team title and Perrysburg captured the girls championship.
In the boys event, AW's Generals were paced by tourney medalist Logan Sutto, who shot a sizzling 65, four shots below runner-up teammate Charlie Robertson's 69. In a clean sweep of the top five individually, Anthony Wayne's Ian Briars and Michael Distefano tied for third at 70, and Myles Murphy was fifth at 72.
The Generals' team score of 274 easily topped second-place Perrysburg (305). Northview was next at 309, followed by Napoleon (334), Bowling Green (347), Maumee (352), Springfield (354), and Southview (355).
AW also took the NLL's overall team crown with 38 points, including league matches, and Perrysburg (31), Northview (30), and Napoleon (21) rounded out the top four.
In the NLL girls tournament, Perrysburg (343) took a comfortable 23-shot victory over runner-up Anthony Wayne (366), followed in order by Springfield (407), Napoleon (416), Southview (426), Bowling Green (432), and Northview (442).
The winning Yellow Jackets were paced by event medalist Sydney Deal, who dominated the field with a 67.
Also in the top five individually were Sophia Stanton (83) and Kennedy Kehres (88) of AW, Ariyah Ellis (88) of Perrysburg, and Kaymen Willard (91) of Springfield.
NORTHERN BUCKEYE CONFERENCE
The NBC boys and girls competition concluded Sept. 20 with the fifth and final league tournament at Greenhills Golf Course in Clyde.
Lake won the overall boys championship with 44 points, followed by runner-up Genoa (40), Otsego (35), Eastwood (34), Elmwood (27), Woodmore and Rossford (15), and Fostoria (5).
The top six individuals in conference play were NBC player of the year Myles Lowe of Lake (39.5 average, 142.5 team points), Tristan Schuerman of Eastwood (41.0, 140.5), Jon Huston of Genoa (40.8, 139.5), Jake Ewerson of Genoa (41.1, 135), Chase Osborn of Lake (38.3, 135), and Chaz Timko of Otsego (39.5, 135).
Otsego won the NBC girls team championship with 46 points, followed by runner-up Lake (40), Elmwood (30), Fostoria (26), Woodmore (21), Rossford (20), Eastwood (17), and Genoa (16).
The top six individuals were Sarah Patrick of Lake (45.2 average, 143 points), NBC player of the year Elizabeth Jackson of Otsego (41.7, 142), Delaney Blake of Elmwood (50.8, 134), Sophie Repka of Woodmore (51.0, 133.5), Libby Welly of Fostoria (49.0, 133.5), and Maddie Milligan of Elmwood (52.5, 130.5).
TOLEDO AREA ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
Ottawa Hills won the TAAC boys golf team tournament on Sept. 19 at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green.
The Green Bears shot a 318 team score to top runner-up Toledo Christian (360), followed by Emmanuel Christian (394) and Maumee Valley (426).
Ottawa Hills has been led by TAAC player of the year Eddie Griffin along with fellow All-TAAC first teamers Will Swigart and Anthony Adduci. Joining them on the all-conference first team were Toledo Christian's Kyle Gebhart and T.J. Huber, Emmanuel's Tyler Miller, and Maumee Valley's Avi Joshi.
NORTHWEST OHIO ATHLETIC LEAGUE
Archbold swept the NWOAL's boys and girls golf tournament championships held last Friday at Auglaize Golf Club in Defiance.
In the boys event, the Blue Streaks shot 309 to top runner-up Bryan (329), followed by Swanton (344), Wauseon (351), Patrick Henry (367), Liberty Center (400), Evergreen (402), and Delta (407).
Archbold's Cahle Roth took individual medal honors with a 72, and was joined in the top six by teammates Luke Rosebrook (second, 74) and Charlie Jones (fourth, 80), Bryan's Noah Huard (third, 76) and Drew Dauber (sixth, 81), and Wauseon's Jackson Gleckler (fifth, 80).
The Blue Streak girls shot a 353 team score to top runner-up Wauseon (385). They were followed by Patrick Henry (414), Delta (446), Evergreen (494), and Swanton (526).
Individually, Archbold's Brayton Huffman took medal honors with an 80, to edge runner-up Kasey Nelson of Patrick Henry (81). Rounding out the top six were Wauseon's Calaway Gerken (83), Archbold's Carly Grime (85) and Aniyah Copeland (91), Delta's Kalleigh Mignin (94), and Wauseon's Ashley Fisher (94).
