High school roundup: Perrysburg opens girls basketball sectionals with victory

Fifth-seeded Perrysburg started off Division I girls basketball sectional play Wednesday at Lake by outscoring 18th-seeded Ashland 29-13 in the first half en route to a 59-25 victory.

Megan Gibbs scored 14 points, Hayley Griggs 11 points, and Kallie Thames 10 points for Perrysburg (17-6), which will face 11th-seeded Notre Dame Academy at 6 p.m. Saturday at Lake.

Camryn Cox had 13 points for Ashland (4-19).

SOUTHVIEW 41, TIFFIN COLUMBIAN 38

The eighth-seeded Cougars (15-8) edged No. 11 seed Tiffin Columbian (11-12) in a Division I sectional at Rossford.

CLAY 22, BOWSHER 21

GENOA, Ohio — The 14th-seeded Eagles had a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter and held on to beat the No. 16 Blue Racers in a D-I sectional.

Camryn Reiter led Clay (6-17) with eight points. The Eagles will face No. 2 seed Fremont Ross at 6 p.m. Saturday at Genoa

Carrie Costanza had seven points to lead Bowsher (6-15).

LIMA SENIOR 45, BOWLING GREEN 37

FOSTORIA — The 15th-seeded Spartans (6-17) upended the 13th-seeded Bobcats (6-17) in a Division I sectional game.

ELMWOOD 52, GENOA 38

In the Division III sectional at Toledo Christian, sixth-seeded Elmwood jumped out to an early 11-point lead and remained ahead the rest of the way against 10th-seeded Genoa.

Cara Frank scored 18 points, Anna Meyer 17 points, and Aubrey Johnson 11 points for the victorious Royals (9-14). Frank had 11 rebounds, and Meyer had seven steals.

Addi Moritz put in 19 points for Genoa (9-14).

SWANTON 40, NORTHWOOD 29

TONTOGANY, Ohio — The eighth-seeded Bulldogs (11-12) topped the seventh-seeded Rangers (10-12) in a Division III sectional game at Otsego.

EASTWOOD 45, OTTAWA HILLS 40

TONTOGANY, Ohio — Amelia Ward and Kayla Buehler each scored 14 points as the ninth-seeded Eagles (10-13) topped the 11th-seeded Green Bears in a D-III sectional at Otsego.

Eliana O'Rourke had 12 points and Lily Berenzweig 11 points for Ottawa Hills (8-14).

STRYKER 57, EDGERTON 48

BRYAN — Third-seeded Stryker (7-6) clipped 10th-seeded Edgerton (6-17) in a Division IV sectional at Bryan.

CONVOY CRESTVIEW 57, FAYETTE 1

PAULDING, Ohio — Top-seeded Convoy Crestview held No. 13 seed Fayette (2-21) to a single free throw in a Division IV sectional at Paulding.

PETTISVILLE 36, MONTPELIER 27

PAULDING, Ohio — The sixth-seeded Blackbirds outscored the eighth-seeded Locomotives 22-13 in the second half to secure a D-IV sectional victory at Paulding.

Grace Crawford scored 19 points for Pettisville (13-10).

 

HOCKEY

ANTHONY WAYNE 7, CLAY 6

WHITMER 3, SOUTHVIEW 2

An overtime goal lifted the Anthony Wayne hockey team to a 7-6 victory Wednesday over Clay in the opening game of the Sylvania regional at Tam-O-Shanter.

Also Wednesday, Whitmer topped Southview 3-2 in overtime to advance to the Sylvania regional quarterfinals.

Play resumes Friday at Tam-O-Shanter, with Whitmer taking on top-seeded Northview at 6 p.m. and Findlay meeting Bowling Green at 8 p.m. Saturday’s slate includes St. John’s Jesuit against Perrysburg at 4 p.m. and St. Francis de Sales against Anthony Wayne at 6 p.m.
