NORWALK, Ohio — Wauseon edged Columbus DeSales for the Division II district wrestling championship Saturday at Norwalk High School.
The Indians finished with 200.5 points, six more than DeSales. Ontario was third at 132.5. Napoleon finished ninth at 73.5.
Collin Twigg of Wauseon claimed first place at 126 pounds, pinning Mansfield Madison’s Mike Thomas in the final in 1:47.
Bryan’s Zain Bell won the 285-pound class, defeating Bowling Green’s Dominick Burch 5-0 in the final.
Wauseon picked up second-place finishes from Zavian LaFountain at 106 and Zaden Torres at 132. Napoleon’s Alex Gonzales was second at 113, and Rossford’s Ayden Wilson was second at 157.
Area third-place finishers included Wauseon’s Larry Moreno at 120, Zaidan Kessler at 165, and Austin Kovar at 190, as well as Fostoria’s James Simms at 150. Maumee’s Tommy Gast was fourth at 126, as was Wauseon’s Chance Snow at 175.
DIVISION III
Brodie Dominique’s first-place finish at 144 pounds helped Archbold claim the Division III district team championship at Rossford.
The Blue Streaks finished with 148.5 points, outdistancing second-place Milan Edison’s 114.5 total. Oak Harbor (110) was third, with Delta (107.5) sixth, Liberty Center (104) seventh, Lakota (81) ninth, and Genoa (76) 10th.
Dominique defeated Milan Edison’s Marcus Medina 3-1 in the 144-pound final.
Delta’s Adam Mattin came away with a district title at 106, scoring a 14-5 major decision over Genoa’s Scott Fuller in the final. Oak Harbor’s Hayden Buhro topped Lakota’s Braxton Quaintance in the 165-pound final, Liberty Center’s Xander Myers beat Archbold’s Hayden Dickman 5-2 in the 175-pound final, and Liberty-Benton’s Gavin Gillig edged Archbold’s Dylan Aeschliman 6-5 in the final at 215.
Tyler Barnes of Delta (113), Trevor Wilcox of Otsego (120), Gabe Chapa (132) and Wyat Ripke (190) of Archbold, Owen Miller of Oak Harbor (138), and Owen Box of Liberty Center (285) finished second in their respective weight classes.
Third-place finishers included Braedyn Tammarine (106) and Jackson Bartels (138) of Liberty Center, Joshua Cornell of Port Clinton (113), and Cannon Endicott of Elmwood (175). Fourth-place finishers include Mason Miller of Archbold (106), Bodee Miller of Oak Harbor (113), Drew Matthews of Liberty Center (120), Evan Hanefeld (126), Landon Lintermoot (132), and Connor Sintobin (190) of Delta, Montana Pierce of McComb (150), and Ethan Crawford of Genoa (215).
The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the state meet, which begins Friday at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
