Central Catholic’s Solomon King is the fastest boy ever to compete in Ohio’s Division II level of high school track.
At Saturday’s D-II Region 6 championship meet at Lexington, King broke the state record in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.48 seconds. He also finished second in the 200 in 21.97.
Other local event winners on the boys side included Rogers’ Keith Hopings in the 110 hurdles (14.66), Central Catholic in the 400 relay (42.75) and 800 relay (1:28.21), and Fostoria’s Gavin Miller in the high jump (6 feet, 5 inches).
Sandusky Perkins captured the boys team title with 50 points, and Oak Harbor finished second with 48 points as the top local team. Liberty Benton was sixth, and Central Catholic came in seventh.
On the girls side, Oak Harbor’s Riley McKitrick won the 100 in 12.29. Central Catholic won the 400 relay in 48.57 and the 800 relay in 1:42.59.
Huron was the girls team champion with 66 points, just one point ahead of second-place Central Catholic, the top local team.
D-II at Piqua
In Region 8, Napoleon’s Masen Switzer won the 200 in 21.98. Delta’s Eli Mora won the 300 in 39.40. Napoleon won the 800 relay in 1:29.65.
Brookville won the boys team title with 49. Napoleon was the best area team, finishing fourth with 34 points.
On the girls side, Bryan’s Jolana Schenkel won the 200 in 25.01. Otsego’s Brooke Simon won the discus with a mark of 131-10.
Bellefontaine took the girls team championship with 85 points. Bryan tied for 11th with 23 points.
