COLUMBUS — Here are updates for Toledo-area athletes during the first day of the OHSAA track and field state meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. This story will be updated throughout the day.
Division I: St. John’s Jesuit gets final spot in Saturday’s 1,600 relay finals
The St. John’s team of Caleb Kelly, Caleb Root, Tre Green, and Joseph Taylor placed ninth in qualifying for the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:20.40
Division I: Northview girls qualify in 1,600 relay
The Northview 1,600 relay team of Isabella Muir, Maley Roberts, Talitha Thomas, and Harper Brighty finished in eighth place with a time of 3:58.23.
Division III: Liberty Center’s Oelkrug finishes eighth in girls pole vault
Calla Oelkrug placed eighth in the pole vault finals after clearing 10-4.
Division III: Gibsonburg’s Owens, Lakota’s Quaintance, Fremont St. Joseph’s Paeth place in boys pole vault
Cole Owens of Gibsonburg finished third after clearing 14-2, Braxton Quaintance of Lakota finished seventh after clearing 14-2, and Sam Paeth of Fremont St. Joseph finished eighth after clearing 13-6.
Division III: McComb’s Althauser earns fifth place in boys long jump
Braxton Althauser of McComb jumped 21-8.25 for fifth in the long jump.
Division I: St. John’s Jesuit’s Kelly qualifies for 200, as well
Caleb Kelly of St. John’s finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 21.08 seconds to qualify for his second individual event after he placed ninth in the 100 prelims.
Division I: Springfield’s Scott doubles in the 200 qualifying
After winning the 100 qualifying, Springfield’s Maira Scott turned in the top qualifying time in the 200 with a time of 23.43 seconds.
Division I: Whitmer’s Garrett finishes third in the 300 hurdles
Azurie Garrett of Whitmer secured a spot in the 300 hurdles final with a third-place finish in 43.81 seconds.
Division I: St. John’s Jesuit’s Taylor places fourth in 400 prelims
Joseph Taylor of St. John’s ran the 400 in 49.02 seconds to finish second in his heat and fourth overall in qualifying.
Division I: St. John’s Jesuit places fourth in 800 relay prelims
The St. John’s team of Tre Green, Joseph Taylor, Justyn Toler, and Caleb Kelly ran a 1:26.99 to finish fourth in the 800 relay qualifying.
Division I: St. John’s Jesuit’s Kelly sneaks into Saturday’s final in the 100
Caleb Kelly of St. John’s finished ninth in qualifying for the 100 with a time of 10.58 seconds.
Division I: Springfield’s Scott has the top time in the 100-meter dash qualifying
Maira Scott of Springfield ran the 100 in 11.41 seconds to win the prelims.
Division I: Whitmer’s Allen qualifies in seventh in 110 hurdles
Ty Allen of Whitmer finished seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.38 seconds.
Division I: Perrysburg girls place seventh in the 3,200 relay
The Perrysburg team of Natalie Sanders, Hannah Kersten, Laura Vallette, and Ava Beeks finished seventh in the 3,200 relay finals with a time of 9:20.15
Division II: Oak Harbor boys qualifies fourth in 1,600 relay
The Oak Harbor foursome of Wyatt Augsburger, Judson Overmyer, Blake Nickel, and Owen Miller placed fourth in the 1,600 relay prelims with a time of 3:25.56.
Division II: Oak Harbor’s Buhro finishes fifth in 200-meter dash
Hayden Buhro of Oak Harbor qualified in fifth place in the 200 prelims with a time of 21.67 seconds.
Division II: Bryan’s Schenkel qualifies in 200-meter dash
Jolana Schenkel of Bryan finished in third place in the 200 prelims with a time of 24.87.
Division II: Liberty-Benton’s Wilkins, Delta’s Mora, Oak Harbor’s Augsburger qualify in boys 300 hurdles
Owen Wilkins of Liberty Benton finished fourth with a time of 39.21 seconds, while Eli Mora of Delta was seventh in 39.77 seconds, and Wyatt Augsburger of Oak Harbor was eighth in 39.80 seconds.
Division II: Central Catholic’s Watson grabs the last spot in 300 hurdles finals
Jayla Watson of Central Catholic earned ninth place in the 300 hurdles prelims with a time of 46.53 seconds.
Division II: Oak Harbor’s Miller, Liberty-Benton’s Doolittle qualify in 400
Owen Miller of Oak Harbor finished fifth in the 400 with a time of 50.17 seconds, while Cason Doolittle of Liberty Benton placed ninth in 50.98 seconds. Both advance to the finals on Saturday.
Division II: Central Catholic’s Ellis third in 400 dash prelims
Mary Ellis of Central Catholic turned in a solid time of 57.25 seconds to finish third in the 400 prelims and qualify for Saturday’s final.
Division II: Central Catholic boys earn the second spot in 400 relay finals; Napoleon qualifies in eighth
Donovan Hooker, Solomon King, Ian Smith, and RJ Maddox took second place in the 400 relay prelims with a time of 42.67 seconds. Napoleon’s quartet of Eli Snopley, Brett Bostelman, Hayden Gerken, and Masen Switzer placed eighth in 43.19 seconds.
Division II: Central Catholic girls win 400 relay prelims; Oak Harbor sixth, Port Clinton eighth
The Central Catholic team of Jayla Watson, Taylor Scribner, Jara Johnson, and Nyla King won the 400 relay prelims with a time of 48.95 seconds. Oak Harbor’s Molly Downs, Effie Schulte, Jaclyn Croy, and Rylee McKitrick placed sixth in 49.92 seconds and Port Clinton’s team of Jade Mitchell, Claudia Gillum, Shianne Lieske, and Alexis Shelton placed eighth in 50.02 seconds.
Division III: Holgate’s Eis, Liberty Center’s Cramer finish top six in girls discus
Holgate’s Jolynn Eis (128-4) and Liberty Center’s Emili Cramer (125-1) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the girls discus.
Division III: Cardinal Stritch’s Hicks earns podium finish in boys high jump
Cardinal Stritch’s Breon Hicks finished sixth in the boys high jump with a 6-3.
Division II: Napoleon, Central Catholic boys qualify in 800 relay
Napoleon’s team of Hayes Bingham, Masen Switzer, Brett Bostelman, and Landin Wiechers finished fifth in the 800 relay in 1:28.78, while the Central Catholic team of Donovan Hooker, RJ Maddox, Jacob Spears, and Solomon King placed ninth to grab the last qualifying spot in Saturday’s final with a time of 1:29.34.
Division II: Central Catholic girls win 800 relay prelims; Port Clinton fourth
Jada Johnson, Taylor Scribner, Mary Ellis, and Nyla King ran the 800 relay in a blazing-fast 1:42.30 to set the Irish up as the favorite in Saturday’s final. Port Clinton’s team of Jade Mitchell, Claudia Gillum, Gracie Rohrer, and Alexis Shelton qualified in fourth at 1:44.63.
Division II: Central Catholic’s Solomon King continues to set records
A week after setting the Ohio Division II state record at 10.48 seconds in the 100 in his regional meet, King set the OHSAA Division II state meet record on Friday with a time of 10.50 in the prelims of the 100-meter dash. Also qualifying for the 100 finals on Saturday was Oak Harbor’s Hayden Buhro who finished ninth in 10.83 seconds.
Division II: Central Catholic duo, Oak Harbor’s McKitrick advance in 100
Central Catholic’s Nyla King and Taylor Scribner qualified for the 100 final in second and seventh place respectively with times of 11.89 and 12.21 seconds. Oak Harbor’s Rylee McKitrick placed third with a time of 12.03 seconds.
Division II: Rogers’ Hopings, Liberty-Benton’s Wilkins qualify in 110 hurdles
Keith Hopings of Rogers qualified in fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.36 seconds, while Liberty-Benton’s Owen Wilkins finished ninth in 14.77 to grab the final spot in Saturday’s final.
Division II: Otsego’s Keifer claims state title in boys pole vault
Otsego senior Dakota Keifer won the state championship in the boys pole vault after clearing 16-0. Keifer, who was fourth in the event a year ago, cleared each of his previous six marks on the first attempt before missing his first try at 16-0. He surpassed the height on his second attempt, while New Richmond’s Grant Harrison and Perry’s Brayden Richards missed each of their three tries at 16-0.
Division II: Liberty-Benton’s Willow 3rd in girls high jump
Liberty-Benton’s Karis Willow cleared 5-5 in the girls high jump to place third.
Division III: Woodmore, Toledo Christian finals bound in girls 1,600 relay
Woodmore’s girls 1,600 relay team of Ariana Florio, Emma Hammer, Olivia Vogelpohl, and Azure Travis posted the fourth-best time (4:02.64), while Toledo Christian’s Anna Stainbrook, Myiah Welborn, Sophia Koralewski, and Jordan Rosales notched the ninth-best mark (4:08.80) to reach Saturday’s finals.
Division III: Northwood’s Coleman advances in 200
Northwood’s R’Emontay Coleman finished the boys 200 in 22.39 to reach the finals.
Division III: Liberty Center’s Mohler, Montpelier’s Hillard finals bound in 200
Liberty Center’s Elle Mohler and Montpelier’s Aleigha Hillard notched the fifth and seventh fastest times in the girls 200 to qualify for finals. Mohler finished in 25.52, while Hillard crossed the line in 25.65.
Division III: Lakota’s McEwan qualifies for 300 hurdles finals
Lakota’s Lucas McEwan finished the boys 300 hurdles in 40.47 to grab the last qualifying spot for finals.
Division III: Despite tough finish, Woodmore’s Travis reaches 300 hurdles finals
Woodmore’s Azure Travis, one of the top seeds in the girls 300 hurdles, snatched the ninth and final qualifying spot for Saturday’s finals after finishing in 47.17. Travis was in first place in her heat entering the last hurdle, but fell into it and crawled across the finish line to narrowly advance.
Division III: Woodmore’s Rios advances in 400
Woodmore’s Rahzia Rios ran the seventh-best time in the girls 400 (59.49) en route to reaching Saturday’s finals.
Division III: McComb’s boys 400 relay advances
In the boys 400 relay, McComb’s Andrew Swisher, Camden Glaser, Braxton Althauser, and Payton Baldridge teamed up to post the second-best time (43.42) in qualifying for finals.
Division III: Liberty Center, Montpelier secure spots in 400 relay finals
Liberty Center’s Calleigh Stoner, Haley Mohler, Peyton Armey, and Elle Mohler had the second-best time in the girls 400 relay (50.08) to reach Saturday’s finals. Montpelier’s quartet of Makaya Crisenbery, Bria Friend, Jacee Altaffer, and Aleigha Hillard posted the sixth-best time (50.64) to advance, as well.
Division III: Liberty Center, Montpelier reach girls 800 relay finals
Liberty Center’s girls 800 relay of Calleigh Stoner, Haley Mohler, Peyton Armey, and Elle Mohler posted the second-fastest time (1:44.45), while Montpelier’s Makaya Crisenbery, Bria Friend, Jacee Altaffer, and Aleigha Hillard had the seventh-best time (1:45.84) to qualify for finals.
Division III: Woodmore’s Travis posts top time in 100 hurdles
Woodmore’s Azure Travis won her heat of the girls 100 hurdles in 14.59 and will be the top seed in Saturday’s finals.
Division III: Ottawa Hills boys place second in 3,200 relay finals
The Ottawa Hills 3,200 relay team of Carson Mackey, Thomas Franklin, Sage Egan, and Riley Nixon earned a second-place finish in the 3,200 relay finals on Friday morning. Ottawa Hills ran a 7:57.22 behind only Bluffton’s time of 7:52.13.

Division III: Woodmore, Liberty Center girls finish 5th and 7th respectively in 3,200 relay finals
The Woodmore 3,200 relay team of Emma Hammer, Caydie Buchanan, Jordan Beam, and Olivia Vogelpohl placed fifth in 9:46.15, while the Liberty Center’s team of Makayla Meller, Kristine Minnich, Cassie Elieff, and Gracie Miller placed seventh in 9:46.77. Minster was the fastest team with a time of 9:19.85.
