High school football: Gerken saves 3OT victory for Napoleon over Clay

NAPOLEON — Hayden Gerken intercepted Mason Heintschel on a two-point conversion pass attempt in the third overtime to seal a 35-34 victory for Napoleon over Clay in a Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division football game on Friday night.

The Wildcats (4-4) led 21-7 before the Eagles (3-5) came back to force overtime at 21-21. Each team scored a touchdown in the first overtime and was shut out in the second. Napoleon went up 35-28 in the third overtime on an Owen Espinoza touchdown pass to Parker Woods, and Clay answered with a Heintschel 2-yard scoring run before electing to go for 2.

Heintschel ran for 167 yards and three touchdowns, and Jake Titgemeyer had 148 yards and two scores on the ground for Clay. Devin Dietrich ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns for Napoleon.

BOWLING GREEN 83, WOODWARD 14

BOWLING GREEN — The host Bobcats ran for all of their 543 total yards off offense with 12 rushing touchdowns in a nonleague win over the Polar Bears.

Ja’ceous Shannon had 231 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries to lead Bowling Green (5-3). Peyton Harris had 149 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, and five other BG players also reached the end zone.

Shannon put the Bobcats on the board with a 58-yard touchdown just 16 seconds in.

However, Ramone Bell found Daudi Dotson for a 78-yard score, with Bell running in the 2-point try to give Woodward (0-8) an 8-7 lead. Bell had a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 42, ORCHARD LAKE (MICH.) ST. MARY’S 0

ORCHARD LAKE, Mich. — The Fighting Irish (8-0) remained undefeated with a one-sided road victory in the Detroit Catholic High School League. Central Catholic scored 35 of its points in the first half.

Marquan Braswell ran for three touchdowns in the first quarter and finished with 94 yards on the ground, taking him over the 1,000-yard mark for the season. Kerry Collins completed 6 of 10 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown, and Preston Fryzell had four catches for 112 and a score.

The Central Catholic defense held St. Mary’s (2-5) to just 33 yards of offense.

ANTHONY WAYNE 51, SPRINGFIELD 6

The host Generals (6-2) fought off the Blue Devils (2-6), breaking the game open with a 21-0 advantage in the second quarter.

Grant Kinnee did it all for Anthony Wayne, running for 169 yards and three touchdowns and completing 9 of 12 passes for 133 yards and two scores. Braden Gardner had 101 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries for AW.

Springfield made it 7-6 in the first quarter when Kamren Tall caught a 76-yard touchdown pass from Kaiden Taylor. The extra point was blocked, and AW scored the next 44 points.

WHITMER 42, NORTHVIEW 0

Jaden Jones rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns to spark the Panthers to a rout of the host Wildcats in an NLL Buckeye Division game.

Brady Ford threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Isiaha Holmes, and Dominic Arent and Brandon Waddell had rushing touchdowns for Whitmer (6-2, 3-0 NLL).

Ford was 10 for 13 passing for 107 yards.

Cameron Alexander caught four passes for 61 yards for Northview (2-6, 1-2).

MAUMEE 50, ROSSFORD 42

Maumee’s Carson Graetz caught the game-tying touchdown and 2-point conversion to force overtime, then hauled in the game-winning touchdown in the extra session as the Panthers outlasted the Bulldogs in Northern Buckeye Conference play.

Graetz finished with six catches for 104 yards, while Timothy Marshall (five catches, 88 yards) also had two touchdown receptions for Maumee (4-4, 2-3 NBC). Ben Kubicz was 22 of 47 passing for 337 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions as the Panthers overcame deficits of 35-14 in the third quarter and 42-28 in the fourth.

Ayden Wilson had 206 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries for Rossford (1-7, 0-5 NBC). Jackson Schultz had two rushing touchdowns and two passing scores, but threw five interceptions.

BRYAN 42, SWANTON 0

BRYAN — Sam Herold rushed for 219 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Golden Bears (3-2, 5-3) to victory. He had scores from eight, four, and 17 yards, all in the first half.

Jase Kepler had scoring runs from 20 and 16 yards among his 70 yard total. Damien Wolfe added a 8-yard rushing score.

Swanton falls to 0-5, 0-8.

PATRICK HENRY 50, DELTA 7

HAMLER, Ohio — Houston Miranda ran for four touchdowns in the first half as the host Patriots scored the first 44 points to top the Panthers for a Northwest Ohio Athletic League win.

Miranda had 110 yards on 12 carries, while Lincoln Creager had two carries for 73 yards with a 14-yard score for Patrick Henry (7-1, 4-1 NWOAL). Creager also completed all six passes for 88 yards, with a 36-yard touchdown to Landon Johnson.

Justin Ruple scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter for Delta (3-5, 1-4), which was outgained 373-69 in total offense.

LIBERTY CENTER 48, EVERGREEN 6

METAMORA, Ohio — Colton Kruse and Colton Chambers each ran for two touchdowns as the visiting Tigers defeated the Vikings in an NWOAL game to remain undefeated.

Kruse rushed for 121 yards on eight carries, and also caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Landon Amstutz.

Waylon Rentz had a 25-yard touchdown run for Liberty Center (8-0, 5-0), and Cam Kahle returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.

Max Mossing had a 79-yard touchdown run for Evergreen (2-6, 0-5).

MONTPELIER 21, NORTHWOOD 12

The Locomotives (1-1 TAAC, 6-2) had scores from Griffin Cooley (a 5-yard run), Kam Smith caught a 25 yard pass from Hayden Sharps, and Sharps had 6-yard run.

For the Rangers (0-3, 2-6), Zaegan Byington had a 35-yard run, and Montay Coleman registered from 92 yards.

OTTAWA HILLS 70, CARDINAL STRITCH 7

The host Green Bears (7-1) dominated the Cardinals (2-6), racking up a 35-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 55-0 halftime advantage.

Rocco Pillarelli ran for 117 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries, and Reddik Pillarelli had one rushing and one receiving score.

Quarterback Chase Miller only threw five passes and completed three, but totaled 121 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Cardinal Stritch got its lone touchdown on a Blake Chesick 16-yard pass to Nathan Frontine in the third quarter. The Cardinals were held to 62 yards of offense.

EDON 62, HILLTOP 0

WEST UNITY, Ohio — Kyler Sapp threw three touchdown passes to Colton Willis as the Bombers crushed the host Cadets (1-7, 0-2) in a Toledo Area Athletic Conference game.

Cohen Hulbert and Trent Buck had two touchdown runs each for Edon (6-2, 3-0 TAAC), Max Radabaugh caught a 6-yard TD pass, and Kole Olds returned a fumble eight yards for a score.

Sapp completed 20 of 34 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns. Buck had 89 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Willis caught four passes for 96 yards and the three scores, while Christian Owens had seven receptions for 107 yards.

LIBERTY-BENTON 33, PANDORA-GILBOA 28

PANDORA, Ohio — Seth Elchert’s 53-yard touchdown reception from Mason Modd with 2:07 remaining gave the visiting Eagles a Blanchard Valley Conference win.

Elchert had 13 catches for 183 yards, while Modd completed 18 of 28 passes for 290 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception for Liberty-Benton (7-1, 5-0 BVC). Modd also ran 20 times for 85 yards, including a 1-yard score.

Zach Elchert had touchdown receptions of 29 yards and 19 yards, as well as a 22-yard touchdown run for the Eagles.

Andrew Miller (16 carries, 62 yards) had touchdown runs of 7 and 1 yard for Pandora-Gilboa (5-3, 3-1), while Ben Burkholder had an 8-yard touchdown run and 32-yard touchdown catch from Cory Gerten.

TIFFIN CALVERT 49, WOODMORE 0

ELMORE, Ohio — The visiting Senecas had a 418-78 edge in total yards and topped the Wildcats for a Sandusky Bay Conference River Division victory.

Jack Caldwell ran for 50 yards on 11 carries to pace Woodmore (2-6, 1-4 SBC River).

Harry Shultz threw for 240 yards with three touchdowns on 10-of-21 passing and added a 3-yard rushing score for Tiffin Calvert (7-0, 4-0).

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 20, HOLGATE 14

The Eagles scored 14 points in the final quarter to win the Northern 8 game in Springfield.

Karter Koester had 6 catches for 143 yards and two TDs (70 and 30 yards) for the Eagles (5-2). Tyler Grace was 7 of 13 passing for 161 yards and the touchdowns. Jacob Michalski rushed for 142 yards with a 18-yard score.

The Tigers (6-1) were led by Xavier McCord, who had an 85-yard interception return for a score, and threw a 5-yard pass to Isaac Mendoza for another.
