Five Toledo-area individuals and a relay team garnered top seeds for the state high school track and field meet this week in Dayton.
Springfield’s Maira Scott claimed the top finish among the four regional meets in the 100 and the 200 in Division I. Scott, the defending state champion in both events, ran the 100 at regionals in 11.51 seconds, 0.16 ahead of Westerville Central’s Olivia Pace. In the 200, Scott finished in 23.19, 0.80 ahead of Pace.
Central Catholic’s Nyla King is the No. 1 seed in the 100 and 200 in Division II. King ran the 100, where she is the defending state champion, in 11.84, 0.26 ahead of Springfield Kenton Ridge’s Shanya Coleman. She posted a 24.59 time in the 200, 0.19 in front of Coleman.
King is also the No. 2 seed in the 400.
The Oak Harbor girls 1,600 relay team claimed the top seed in Division II, with its 3:57.57 time 0.37 ahead of Gates Mills Gilmour Academy.
Central Catholic’s Victor Singleton had the top long jump at regionals among Division II boys, with his 23-¼ effort coming in 5¼ inches ahead of Columbus Eastmoor Academy’s Donovan Delph.
Ottawa Hills’ Riley Nixon is the top seed in the Division III boys 1,600, an event in which he finished second last year at state, with his 4:14.97 time 2.05 seconds ahead of Steubenville Catholic Central’s Andrew Rohde. He’s also the No. 3 seed in the 3,200.
In the Division III girls 100 hurdles, Woodmore’s Azure Travis claimed the No. 1 seed with a 14.71 time, 0.04 ahead of Maria Stein Marion Local’s Grace Moeller. She’s also the No. 2 seed in the 300 hurdles. Travis is the defending state champion in both events.
The state meet begins Thursday at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium. Division III finals are set for Friday, with Division I and II finals scheduled for Saturday.
