All-Ohio boys basketball: Whitmer's Leach named first team All-Ohio in D-I

The dynamic Whitmer senior guard duo of Makhi Leach and Antione West were named to the Division I first and second teams, respectively, on the 2025 All-Ohio boys basketball teams released Thursday by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association.

St. John's Jesuit junior Race Kowalczyk was selected to the OPSMA's second team in Division II, and Central Catholic sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell was chosen to the second team in Division III.

Leach, a 6-foot-3 guard who averaged 22.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game during the regular season, helped the Panthers (17-8, 7-1) to a Northern Lakes League co-championship with Perrysburg, and an advancement to the D-I regionals.

The Bowling Green State University-bound standout was previously named as player of the year in the NLL's Buckeye Division, and as the Northwest District's D-I player of the year.

West, a 6-3 guard who has signed to play at national collegiate power Purdue University, averaged 18.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists despite having to overcome an early-season illness that caused him to miss six games.

West had been named to the All-Ohio first team the past two seasons, including last year after he and Leach led Whitmer to the D-I state semifinals. He scored 1,818 career points as a four-year starter for the Panthers.

Kowalczyk, a 6-6 guard-forward, averaged 17.4 points and 4.9 rebounds for the 15-8 Titans. He is the son of University of Toledo men's basketball head coach Tod Kowalczyk.

Mack-Russell, a 6-5 guard, averaged 18.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in his second year as a starter for the 13-11 Irish, helping them reach the D-III regional semifinals for the second straight year.

Mack-Russell, who is Ohio's top-rated player in the Class of 2027, according to PrepHoops.com, is the grandson of the late Louis Orr, who starred at Syracuse University, played eight years in the NBA, and later was head coach for seven seasons at BGSU.

Also receiving All-Ohio honors from the OPSMA were two standouts from repeat City League champion Lima Senior (22-3, 6-0). Shawn Foster, a 6-2 sophomore guard (17.9 points), was selected to the Division II first team, and teammate Je'Kel Cotton, a 6-7 senior forward (15.5 points, 8.1 rebounds), was named to the D-II second team.
