Spencer Torkelson capped off the Toledo Mud Hens’ comeback on Friday night, delivering the extra-inning walk-off single.
Torkelson’s base hit drove in Ryan Kreidler, the extra-inning runner, in Toledo’s 6-5 win in 10 innings over Louisville at Fifth Third Field.
Toledo is in third place of the International League West Division and 9.5 games back of the first-place Nashville Sounds. The Mud Hens improved to 63-56 and the Bats fell to 51-70.
The Mud Hens tied it at 5 in the eighth inning on a fielder’s choice from Jamie Westbrook. Westbrook’s grounder scored Brendon Davis. Daz Cameron added an RBI ground out in the seventh to cut Louisville’s lead to 5-4.
Toledo had an early 2-0 lead on a single from Josh Lester and a double from Andre Lipcius. Louisville starter Raynel Espinal was tagged for three runs on five hits in 3⅔ innings with five strikeouts and two walks.
The Bats knotted it at 3-all in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Juniel Querecuto and took the lead on a single from TJ Hopkins. The Bats added a run on a solo homer from Mark Kolozsvary in the sixth.
Ricardo Sanchez pitched 4⅔ innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Miguel Del Pozo (5-2) earned the win and Eddy Demurias (3-1) was credited the loss.
The Mud Hens and Bats continue the series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Fifth Third Field.
