PAPILLION, Neb. — Omaha scored runs in each of the first five innings on its way to a 9-4 victory over Toledo at Werner Park on Friday night.
After the Mud Hens scored in the top of the first inning on a passed ball, the Storm Chasers’ Tyler Gentry and CJ Alexander each drove in a run in the bottom of the inning.
Toledo’s Brendon Davis hit a solo homer in the second inning, his first of the year, but Omaha’s Samad Taylor and Maikel Garcia knocked in runs.
Logan Porter hit his fourth homer of the year for Omaha in the third inning, and the Storm Chasers scored three more runs in the fourth.
Toledo scored a run in the ninth and loaded the bases with two outs, but couldn’t cut into the deficit.
Toledo starter Reese Olson (0-2, 15.19 ERA) lasted 3⅓ innings, giving up eight hits and seven earned runs while striking out six.
Left fielder Akil Baddoo went 3-for-4 for the Mud Hens, scoring a run and knocking one in.
Toledo (4-3) plays the fifth game of the six-game set against Omaha (4-3) at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday.
