Mud Hens score 5 runs in 7th to surge past Louisville 7-3

The Toledo Mud Hens scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally past the Louisville Bats for a 7-3 victory Tuesday at Fifth Third Field.

Trailing 3-2 entering the seventh, Jonathan Davis started the inning by launching a solo home run to tie the game at 3. Tyler Nevin then doubled home Justyn-Henry Malloy, Andre Lipcius doubled home Nevin, and Andrew Knapp drove in Lipcius and Donny Sands with a two-RBI single.

After the Mud Hens built their 7-3 lead, Bryan High School graduate Matt Wisler and Miguel Del Pozo each pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to finish off the game.

Will Vest (1-0) picked up the victory with a scoreless seventh inning of relief.

Louisville's Tony Santillan (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up three earned runs while getting just two outs.

The Bats started the game with a sacrifice fly from Joey Votto, who is rehabbing from Cincinnati.

The Mud Hens answered with a run in the bottom half of the first when Malloy doubled home Zack Short.

Louisville got a run in the second on an Alejo Lopez RBI single and in the third on a solo homer from Nick Senzel.

Toledo's Andy Ibanez recorded a sacrifice fly in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2 before the big five-run seventh.

Knapp led the Toledo offense with three hits, while Nevin also recorded two hits to continue his torrid start to the season.

Toledo starter Zach Logue lasted 3⅔ innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

The teams will play again at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Fifth Third Field.
