DES MOINES — The Toledo Mud Hens’ losing streak extended to six games on Tuesday, with Toledo losing 6-1 at Iowa in the first game of a two-week, 12-game road trip.
Iowa scored all of its runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Toledo starter Reese Olson (1-3) lasted 3⅔ innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out four.
Left fielder Darius Hill recorded one of the Cubs’ three doubles in a 2-for-4 night, a third-inning hit that produced Iowa’s first run.
Jake Slaughter, the Iowa third baseman, went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, both coming on a two-run single in the fourth that gave the Cubs a 4-0 lead.
David Bote had an RBI single earlier in the third for Iowa, while Jared Young posted a two-run single in the fifth.
Toledo’s lone run came in the eighth, when Justyn-Henry Malloy singled home Andre Lipcius.
The Mud Hens managed just five hits. Kyle Hendricks picked up the victory for Iowa, yielding no runs on two hits while striking out four and walking none in five innings of work.
The teams return to action at 1:08 p.m. Wednesday at Principal Park. Ashton Goudeau (1-2, 6.66 ERA) is scheduled to start for Toledo against Iowa’s Ben Brown (0-0, 1.59).
