BUFFALO — The Mud Hens suffered their second straight loss to the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday, falling to an 8-2 defeat in the second game of a three-game series.
Toledo opened the scoring on a Justyn-Henry Malloy solo home run in the top of the first, but the lead was short-lived. Davis Schneider tied it with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, and Jordan Luplow hit a two-run shot beyond right field to make it 3-1 Buffalo.
Otto Lopez added to the Bisons’ lead with an RBI single in the second. Hens starting pitcher Zach Logue lasted 3⅓ innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
Former MLB All-Star Hyun-jin Ryu got the start on the mound for Buffalo on a rehab assignment for the Toronto Blue Jays. He threw five innings, striking out five and allowing three hits. Malloy’s early homer was the only run Ryu surrendered.
The Hens scored their second run on another solo shot, this time from Parker Meadows in the sixth. But the Bisons scored two in the fifth and two in the sixth to grow their lead to 8-2.
Buffalo (42-46) totaled 13 hits in the game, with eight different players getting at least one hit. Spencer Horwitz led the way with a 3-for-5 effort with two RBIs.
Malloy was 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead the Mud Hens.
Toledo (38-50) will try to avoid a three-game sweep in Sunday’s series finale, set for 1:05 p.m. Joey Wentz is scheduled to pitch for Toledo against Buffalo’s Bowden Francis.
