Former Whitmer star Nigel Hayes has signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to multiple reports.
The 6-foot-8 Hayes has spent this season with the Westchester Knicks, the NBA G-League affiliate of the New York Knicks. Hayes, who signed with the Knicks in August, has played in 30 games with the minor league team and averaged 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 35.1 minutes per game.
Hayes averaged 14 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists as a senior last year at Wisconsin, where he was a key contributor on the Badgers teams that went to back-to-back Final Fours in 2014 and 2015 and reached the Sweet 16 in all four of his seasons.
The Lakers are 15-29 this season and have the 13th-best record in the 15-team Western Conference. The team is banged up, with guards Lonzo Ball and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope out and forwards Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma questionable for Friday's matchup with Indiana.
