Toledo football's 2020 opponents released

The University of Toledo announced its 2020 football opponents Thursday.

The Rockets will open the season Sept. 5 at Tulsa. The home opener will be Sept.12 against San Diego State, before Toledo travels to Michigan State on Sept. 19.

Toledo will close out the non-conference schedule with a home game against NCAA Football Championship Subdivision opponent Central Connecticut State on Sept. 26.

Toledo will play Michigan State for the first time since 1925. The Rockets, in the program’s ninth year of existence, lost to the Spartans 58-0. Toledo is 6-15 all-time against the Big Ten Conference.

Tulsa went 4-8 this season, its third straight losing campaign.

San Diego State (9-3) tied for the Mountain West’s West Division lead and will play Central Michigan in the New Mexico Bowl.

Central Connecticut State went 11-2 this season, including a 34-29 loss at Eastern Michigan.

In the Mid-American Conference play next season, Toledo will have home games against Ball State, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, and Ohio. The Rockets will have road games at Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, and Akron. Dates and times for those games have not been announced.

Homecoming is set for Oct. 3 against a MAC opponent.
