University of Toledo junior point guard Marreon Jackson will enter his name into the 2020 NBA Draft, but will keep his college eligibility he announced today on Twitter.
Jackson was a second-team All-Mid-American Conference performer this season averaging 19.8 points and 5.4 assists per game, both of which were second-best in the MAC.
Jackson had four games of 30-plus points this season including a career-high 37 points in a win at Central Michigan. The point guard from Garfield Heights High School in Cleveland has seen his scoring production progress in each of his seasons at Toledo from 8.0 points per game as a freshman to 11.7 points per game as a sophomore to 19.8 points per game this year as a junior. His assist and rebounding numbers also improved in each of his three seasons with the Rockets and this season he had a game with 10 assists as well as a game with 10 rebounds.
College players like Jackson can now test the waters of the NBA Draft with an agent that is certified by the NBPA and NCAA and still have the option of returning to school after they receive an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee.
This allows players like Jackson to get valuable feedback on how his game might translate to the NBA game.
If Jackson were to keep his name in the draft and get drafted, he would be the first Toledo player selected in the NBA Draft since Casey Shaw was a second-round pick in 1998.
First off I would Like to thank my lord and Savior Jesus Christ for everything heโs done, is doing and is going to do. Thank you to the Univ of Toledo, teammates, coaches, trainers, school staff, and of course the Best Fans in the world. #RocketNation๐I love you all๐๐ #OwnZone pic.twitter.com/BpVthlr5ug
