Toledo football lands 3-star safety Mines

The University of Toledo football team picked up a 2021 commitment from 3-star safety Jaylin Mines on Saturday.

Mines is from Oak Park High School in Oak Park, Mich., a suburb of Detroit. Listed at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Mines is the fourth commitment for Toledo in its 2021 class and is the highest rated in the class.

According to 247Sports, Mines is the 17th ranked player in the state of Michigan and is the 43rd ranked safety in the country.

Mines held offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and several Mid-American Conference schools, according to 247Sports.

The University of Toledo football team has added Cass Tech teammates Doran Ray and Clarence Wilson to its 2021 recruiting class.

Mines joins two players from Phillips Academy in Chicago – defensive end Vontrell Chairse and safety Willie Jones – in Toledo's 2021 class along with Cincinnati Elder offensive lineman Drew Beckenhaupt.

The current class of four ranks third in the MAC, according to 247Sports.
