The honors for Toledo men’s basketball continue to pile up.
On Tuesday, Tod Kowalczyk was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 14 coach of the year. He was also named a finalist for the Hugh Durham national mid-major coach of the year award.
Senior point guard Marreon Jackson was named first team All-District 14, and fellow senior Spencer Littleson was named to the second team.
Freshman guard Ryan Rollins is a finalist for the Kyle Macy national freshman of the year award.
Kowalczyk has guided the Rockets to a 21-8 record and the Mid-American Conference regular-season championship. UT won a school-record 15 MAC games.
Jackson, the MAC player of the year, is averaging 18.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.1 rebounds per game. He’s the only player in the country averaging at least 17 points, six assists, and six rebounds.
Littleson has a school-record 101 3-point baskets this season. His 47.4 3-point percentage ranks second nationally.
Rollins, the MAC freshman of the year, is the team’s second-leading scorer (13.5 points) and fourth-leading rebounder (5.3).
Toledo plays Richmond at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Denton, Texas, in the first round of the NIT.
Bowling Green’s Justin Turner joined Jackson on the first team, his third straight nod on the district’s first team. No other BGSU player has received that honor more than once.
Turner ranks 10th in Mid-American Conference history with 2,077 career points. This season, he averaged 19.3 points and 4.3 rebounds.
BGSU will play in the CBI quarterfinals Monday at 11:30 a.m. against Stetson.
