Toledo will have at least a couple more scholarships open during the current recruiting cycle.
Quarterback Carter Bradley and defensive lineman Geri Theodore have entered the transfer portal.
Bradley, a sophomore, began the 2021 season as Toledo’s starting quarterback. He started the first six games, but the offense sputtered as UT went 3-3.
Head coach Jason Candle went with Dequan Finn on Oct. 16 at Central Michigan, and Bradley’s playing time all but evaporated.
“First, I would like to thank the University of Toledo along with the football program and staff that has given me an incredible opportunity for the last four years to play football,” Bradley wrote in a tweet. “The relationships I built with my teammates, the staff, and beyond are ones that I will cherish forever.
“My time as a Rocket has taught me a lot about the game but also contributed to showing me how this game can establish value to help me forever in life. I wish nothing but the best for all my teammates and coaches. With that being said, I have decided it is best for me to go in a different direction and enter the transfer portal.”
Bradley completed 59.2 percent of his passes (77 of 130) for 972 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He came to Toledo as a highly touted one-time four-star recruit.
Entering the season, Bradley had started three games in his career, completing 58 of 120 pass attempts for 708 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. During the shortened 2020 season, he threw for a career-high 432 yards against Central Michigan, the most by a Mid-American Conference QB all year, and ranked third in the conference in passing efficiency (164.1).
Theodore, a Clearwater, Fla., native, was a three-star defensive lineman in the class of 2020. He did not play in 2020 and only appeared in one game in 2021.
