Brother Rice's Xavier Thomas becomes UT men's first 2023 commit

Xavier Thomas, a 6-foot-5 forward from Brother Rice in Detroit, became the first commitment for Toledo men’s basketball’s 2023 recruiting class.

The All-Catholic High School League selection averaged 13.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists as a junior in helping lead Brother Rice to a 15-7 record.

Thomas held offers from UT, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Miami (Ohio), and Tennessee State.

“Xavier is the most versatile player in the state of Michigan,” Brother Rice coach Rick Palmer told the Observer and Eccentric Media. “He can dominate games from any of the five positions.”

UT’s head coach Tod Kowalczyk waves the net around after winning the regular season MAC championship against Bowling Green during a men’s MAC basketball game at the University of Toledo’s Savage Arena on March 4.
