STILLWATER, Okla. — The University of Toledo women’s cross country team finished 28th out of 31 teams at the Division I NCAA cross country championship meet on Saturday on the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course.
The Rockets, ranked No. 17 the coaches poll, totaled 654 points in their fifth championship meet appearance in program history, and first since 2014. North Carolina State, the defending champion, won the team title with 114 points, led by individual champion Katelyn Tuohy (19:27.7).
“It's been truly a great year and an important step for our program to get back into the national championships for the first time in several years," third-year UT coach Andrea Grove-McDonough said in a statement. "There is no doubt we were hoping for a little more out of today, but I'm immensely proud of our program, our athletes, our staff, and everyone who is behind the scenes helping this program grow. We are leaving here with a ton of motivation for what's to come."
Junior Joy Chirchir, an individual qualifier last year, led UT in 52nd (20:17.2).
Also scoring for the Rockets were senior Faith Linga (127th, 20:47.2), senior Emily Vining (196th, 21:18.5), senior Lou Trois (209th, 21:28.1), and junior Julia Dames (210th, 21:28.8). Vining is a Notre Dame Academy graduate.
