For the first time since 2015, the University of Toledo football team is ranked in the AP poll.
The 10-1 Rockets are No. 23 in this week’s rankings, which are topped by No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Ohio State, and No. 3 Michigan.
This is the 10th season in program history that Toledo has been ranked.
In the coaches poll, UT is among others receiving votes, four spots out of the top 25.
Toledo has won 10 consecutive games since losing on a last-second field goal at Illinois. Only Georgia, Washington, Florida State, Liberty, Ohio State, and Michigan have longer winning streaks than the Rockets.
UT was ranked as high as No. 19 in 2015 when it started the season 7-0. The Rockets were No. 24 in the final week of the regular season when they lost to Western Michigan 35-30. Matt Campbell was named the head coach at Iowa State the next day, and Toledo hasn’t been ranked ever since.
The Rockets play at Central Michigan at noon Friday before taking on Miami in the Mid-American Conference championship game in Detroit on Dec. 2.
