LOUISVILLE — Former University of Toledo running back Peny Boone’s stay at Louisville will be short-lived.
Boone, who transferred in January, plans to re-enter the transfer portal Tuesday when the spring transfer window opens. Boone was being projected by multiple outlets as the starter ahead of Friday’s spring game.
In 2023, Boone had a breakout season for the Rockets. He was named the Mid-American Conference offensive player of the year, rushing for 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also racking up 219 yards receiving. His 7.2 yards per carry ranked second in the FBS.
Boone came to Toledo from Maryland, where he spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He transferred to UT ahead of the 2022 campaign.
After entering the portal the first time this past winter, Boone picked Louisville over Florida State and Kentucky. He is now considered a four-star transfer and the No. 7 running back available, according to 247Sports.
Louisville is also expected to lose five offensive linemen and one defensive lineman to the portal, according to multiple outlets.
