DETROIT — University of Toledo men's basketball signee Leroy Blyden, Jr., finished second in Michigan Mr. Basketball voting on Monday.
The 6-foot point guard from University of Detroit Jesuit High School finished behind winner and Michigan commit Trey McKenney of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. McKenney won the award with 4,897 points, and Blyden collected 2,019 points.
Blyden averaged 21.5 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals per game.
“He’s a tremendous player, and he plays with a lot of confidence,” his coach, Pat Donnelly, told The Blade after Blyden led the Cubs to a win over St. John’s Jesuit in December. “He’s got a lot of poise, and he’s a guy that can go get you a basket when you need one.”
Blyden has led U-D Jesuit in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals the past two seasons. In 2024-25, he made nearly 70 percent of his 2-point field goals and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc. Earlier this season, he scored 39 points against defending state champion Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
Blyden was a high school teammate of current Toledo point guard Sonny Wilson.
