The Toledo Walleye have signed Adam Parsells, a 6-foot-6, 192-pound defenseman who is in his first pro season.
Parsells, a native of Wausau, Wis., has appeared in one game in the ECHL and two games in the American Hockey League this season.
Parsells was released by the Indy Fuel on Saturday. He did not play in Toledo's game against Indy on Friday night at the Huntington Center.
The defenseman has appeared in two games this year with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL and one with the Fuel. He has not recorded any points or penalty minutes.
The 24-year-old played in two games for the Utah Grizzlies in 2020-21 after completing his college career at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
A former sixth-round pick of the San Jose in the 2015 NHL entry draft, Parsells spent four years at Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which competes at the NCAA Division III level.
Parsells posted 58 points with 20 goals and 38 assists in 88 games for the Blugolds. He was an assistant captain in each of his final two years and posted a career-best 24 points (8 G, 16 A) in 28 games during the 2019-20 season.
On Sunday, Walleye forward Matt Berry earned a call-up to Toledo's AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids. Berry ranks second in the ECHL in total points with 24 (9 G, 15 A) in 15 games. He is tied for the league lead in assists and has the top plus-minus rating (plus 16).
Berry joins fellow Walleye players goalie Kaden Fulcher, forward Brett McKenzie, and defenseman Blake Hillman up in the AHL with the Griffins.
The Walleye (10-5-0) are tied with rival Fort Wayne at the top of the Central Division standings with 20 points. Toledo has won six of its last 10 games.
The Walleye host Wheeling on Saturday night before taking on Cincinnati at home on Sunday.
Toledo then goes on a six-game road trip before returning to host the highly anticipated Winterfest event. It will feature two outdoor games, including the Walleye's first game on New Year's Eve. Toledo will host the Kalamazoo Wings on Dec. 26 and the Indy Fuel on Dec. 31 at Fifth Third Field.
