Toledo Walleye forward Brandon Hawkins, who had a hat trick on Friday night, has earned the ECHL's player of the week honors.
Hawkins posted four goals and one assist in the Walleye’s two road games last weekend to earn the league’s award for the week of Feb. 12-18.
The Macomb, Mich., native notched his sixth professional regular-season hat trick in Toledo’s 6-4 win at Cincinnati on Friday night. He also added an assist in that contest for his first four-point game of the year. He then finished his weekend with a goal in the Walleye’s 3-2 loss at Kalamazoo on Saturday.
Hawkins, who is in his third season with the Walleye, leads the ECHL in points (62) and in goals (29) over 47 games.
In his career, the 29-year-old has played in 249 ECHL games and has amassed 279 points with 142 goals and 137 assists. Hawkins also continues to climb the Walleye's all-time scoring lists. He now ranks third in goals scored with 103, is fourth in assists with 104, and third in points with 207.
Hawkins, who has scored four game-winning goals this season, is now tied for second in franchise history for most game-winning goals with 17.
Hawkins also is riding a five-game point streak during which he has collected nine points (6 G, 3 A).
The Walleye (28-10-9) continue to lead the ECHL Central Division with 65 points, five more than second-place Indy.
Toledo, which is 4-2-4 in its last 10 games, opens up a stretch of eight straight home games this weekend. The Walleye hosts the Maine Mariners on Friday and Saturday before hosting rival Fort Wayne on Sunday. This weekend marks the first time Toledo has played Maine.
