CINCINNATI — Colin Swoyer scored with 2:51 to go in regulation to give the Toledo Walleye a 3-2 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday in front of 10,825 fans at the Heritage Bank Center.
The Walleye claimed the New Year’s Eve victory after falling behind 2-1 in the first period.
Hunter Johannes opened scoring for Toledo 12:22 into the first period, assisted by Brendon Michaelian and Casey Dornbach. Cincinnati, however, responded a minute and 48 seconds later with an equalizer from Mathieu Gosselin. Chris Dodero netted a power-play goal with 1:53 to go in the first to give Cincinnati the lead.
Toledo tied things 3:49 into the second period when Tyler Spezia scored his 16th goal of the season, assisted by Swoyer and Trenton Bliss.
Johannes and Casey Dornbach assisted on the game-winner.
Carter Gylander recorded 30 saves for the Walleye, who outshot Cincinnati 33-32. Toledo had a 15-7 advantage in shots in the third period.
The Walleye are at Fort Wayne at 7:35 p.m. Friday before returning home to host the Komets at 7:15 p.m. Saturday. Kalamazoo visits in a 5:15 p.m. contest Sunday.
